Holiday Trees and 30 Live Native Red Cedars
Sixty schools in Lee and Charlotte Counties have signed up to decorate trees for the FREE month long Children’s Tree Trail festival for the holidays. The students and teachers create all of the decorations from recycled and weather resistant materials and this years theme is “Tropical Flowers.” Financial support for the project is provided through the Edison & Ford Winter Estates and from the George M. Cox Trust, who give the teachers a stipend to purchase art supplies.
Decorating starts in November and visitors will see the signs and the completed trees installed throughout the Garden Shoppe, Heritage Gardens and the new garden entrance off Larchmont Avenue. “The special opening for the schools is November 23, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., and we expect quite a turnout of students, families, teachers and administrators,” says Edison Ford Art Educator, Deborah Bowers.
This is always quite an event and includes cookies from the Costco bakeries, visits from Santa, the Edisons and Fords, and live music. There will also be continuous showings of holiday and children’s films on the Museum West Porch throughout the month long event (November 27 – January 3).
