Volunteer Meeting and Lecture – Sound and Motion Pictures

Posted by Edison Ford Winter Estates On July 4th
  • July 14, 10:00 a.m. – Lecture Hall in South Florida Water Management Building

Curatorial staff and Volunteers will provide a demonstration of Thomas Edison’s favorite invention – the phonograph. Joining them will be Edison phonograph collector extraordinaire, John Kurdyla, who will share his phonograph expertise. Voices will be recorded onto a phonograph cylinder, then played back during the presentation. Information regarding the development of the phonograph and its impact on society will also be discussed. The meeting will also feature a presentation by museum docent Jim Hopton, about the zoetrope “hands-on” children’s exhibit in the museum. He will provide a take home worksheet so you can make a small zoetrope at home from recycled materials.

The program is also open to current volunteers and the general public who are interested in becoming a volunteer at Edison Ford. For more information call 239-334-7419.
