President’s Update ~ Chris Pendleton, President & CEO

Posted by Edison Ford Winter Estates On July 2nd

president update     It is hard to believe, but we are getting ready for October 1, 2015 when Edison & Ford Winter Estates enters into its 10th year of operation as a non-profit corporation. We are planning a year of celebration – strengthening our program, looking forward to the future and remembering the past.

The first of the big news is that on June 15, 2015, the Fort Myers City Council amended our corporation’s lease of the Edison and Ford properties – to a 100 year lease through June 2115. We have more than proven our strength and commitment to protecting, preserving, educating and developing the site with more than $2.2 million in improvements to the site since 2006, the growth of paid staff to 75, and the volunteer group to more than 250.

In addition to the site improvements, the program growth has also been outstanding with award-winning activities for children, families and adults.  Programs like Inventor’s Summer Camp, School Year Homeschool, Early Learners/Young Inventors, Road Scholar and other daily activities in the museum are attracting full participation.

Holiday Nights has grown to a solid month of activities and night time operation, and the new Marina at Edison Ford adds dining and a river experience to the experiences here.

It is almost 70 years since Thomas Edison’s widow, Mina Edison, deeded the estate to the City. We know both Mina and Thomas (and next door neighbors Clara and Henry Ford) would be proud of the accomplishments of the Board of Trustees and the new corporation and their plans for the future.

Please help us through your continued support as members, donors and active participants in programs.
