founding females mary hill march 2015     A new original portrait of Mary Hill or “Mother Hill” has been installed in The Founding Females Exhibit. Mary Hill opened the most popular boarding house in Fort Myers which opened in 1889. Her portrait was created by artist, Celeste Borah.

The Founding Females Exhibit opened in February in the Edison Caretaker’s House and has been very well attended. It not only captures the unique attributes, which these “pioneer women” brought to the community, but also presents the works of a very well established group of artists. The result is a history exhibit and an art exhibit combined.

Throughout the next couple of months a series of workshops and tours will be available for the public including painting and drawing workshops, private group lectures (with lunch or refreshments optional) and Girl Scout Badge work.
