As we begin 2015, we have a lot ahead this year for Members, the community and visitors.

summer camp presidents update jan 2015      The education program for students keeps expanding. Our first Robotics Engineering Winter Break Camp was a huge success in December, and we have another camp for Spring Break coming up in the next couple of months.

Registration is underway for Inventor’s Summer Camp which begins on June 8th. Some of the weeks are already half full. Contact Leeanne Criswell at 239-334-7419 to receive another copy of the brochure, to sign up with a credit card and for more information. Through the generous help of many friends, a limited number of competitive scholarships are available. Leeanne can help you with information about the process.

community garden presidents update jan 2015      The new Member and Community Plot Gardens are really filling up. Some of us can boast our first crops of broccoli, tomatoes, winter greens and eggplant. Each of the plots is 4×10 feet and the organic soil has been prepared for planting by our garden staff. Water is nearby as is the help of staff and volunteers for beginners.

Each of the upcoming months, our monthly  Garden Talk will conclude with pointers and direction for the crops garden participants. This is a great way to learn about specific topics and also to get pointers on your crops garden or other garden projects.

Our new Garden Shoppe Manager is Janice Schmidt. Janice brings with her years of experience in agriculture and propagating plus a horticulture degree from Michigan State. She already enjoys working with our garden staff and garden volunteers and the group is growing in number and participation. Already we are seeing new plants in the Garden Shoppe with varieties of bamboo and large trees coming in January.
