Girl Scout and Brownie Programs Coming in March

  • March 8, 15, 22, 29 – 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. 

     March is Women’s History Month and the new exhibit in the Edison Caretaker’s House is all about the outstanding women whose leadership and presence in southwest Florida help shape the region.

girl scout emblem     This hour long program includes hands-on activities, free time after touring Edison Ford and access to the picnic area for refreshments. Scout Troops should call Leeanne Criswell at 239-334-7419 to register.

Cost: $20 per scout or participating sibling (includes one parent).


Edison Ford Summer Camp 2015 Registration Open to ALL

     Registration is open for Edison Ford Inventor’s Summer Camp beginning June 8 through August 21, 2015 in science, art and nature. Camps are separated by grade levels, 1st – 3rd and 4th – 6th.

Classes are already filling up so register soon.

Cost:  Edison Ford Members $200; non-members $230. To register or for more information contact Edison Ford at 239-334-7419 or email lcriswell@edisonfordwinterestates.org. To download the required forms visit our Education page online.

For students above 6th grade, contact Edison Ford for Junior Counselor applications to earn volunteer hours.

Horticulturalists lead behind-the-scenes gardener tours which include 20 acres of historic gardens, crop gardens, propagating nursery, and Garden Shoppe full of exotic, heritage and edible plants for gardens and containers. Ticket includes free time to tour Edison Ford and participants receive a 20% discount in the Garden Shoppe.

Cost: Edison Ford Members FREE (one time); non-members $30.

Edison Ford Shoppe at Bell Tower

Bell Tower shoppe jan 2015     Have you been to the Edison Ford Shoppe at the Bell Tower Shops lately? The Edison Ford Shoppe sells merchandise focused on Southwest Florida history and the arts, including local jams, jellies, tea, honey, and art work by local artists. There are many one-of-a-kind unique gifts and collectibles with something for everyone including lovers of history, gardens, science, inventions and beautiful art pieces for the home or to wear. There is an extensive book selection, including literature, history, science and children’s books, and those about Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.

The hours for the Edison Ford Shoppe at Bell Tower are Monday – Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Sunday Noon – 5:00 p.m.

Edison Ford Members receive a 10% discount on all purchases.


NEW – Member & Community Plot Garden

community garden jan 2015     Garden spots are still available in the new Edison Plot Garden, located behind the lab but filling up fast with interested gardeners and family groups. There are only 20 plots available in this new “experiment” of Edison Ford’s garden staff.

The garden area is entirely organic and each 4×10 plot has already had the soil amended and waiting for a renting gardener. In fact, staff created this garden area a few years ago and it is so successful that we are opening it to Members and the community.

Organic vegetables and seed are Available in the Garden Shoppe and Garden staff is available for advice.

Edison Festival Garden Market

     The Edison Ford Garden Shoppe will be host to dozens of plant vendors for a weekend of fun, great plants and activities.

  • Succulents
  • Vegetables and herbs
  • Fruit trees

This is a chance to find some wonderful and unusual tropical varieties at great prices and from the growers who produced them and can talk about the plant details and care.

Edison Ford Antique Car Show

  • Antique car show 2015February 7, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. 

     Over 100 antique cars will be on exhibit and car owners will showcase their cars on the Ford lawn, along the beautiful backdrop of the Caloosahatchee River.

It is a fitting tribute to the legacy of Henry Ford, pioneer of the automobile industry and a winter resident of Fort Myers. Owners will be on-hand to visit with guests and answer questions. It is sure to be a memorable event for the whole family.

In addition to the car show, there will be informal tours with Henry and Clara Ford and live music. Texas Tony will be providing barbecue for purchase.

Edison Ford Antique Boat Show

  • Two Day Event – January 31 and February 1  2016edison reliance 2

      Antique boats will be on display in the Coconut Grove and at The Marina  at Edison Ford, both in the water and on land at Pinchers for viewing pleasure.

Visitors will enjoy seeing many varieties of boats and can get an up-close look at them. Boat owners will also be available for questions.

This event is sure to please nautical enthusiasts, both the young and young-at-heart.
