The Vagabonds and Kingsford Charcoal

Posted by Edison Ford Winter Estates On September 29th

In 1914 Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Charles Burroughs, the self-titled “Vagabonds,” began taking camping trips into the back country of Florida. Their foray into nature gave them a taste for roughing it and along with Harvey Firestone they embarked on a series of trips into the Eastern United States over the following decade.

Find out how Henry Ford, always looking for ways to reduce waste while increasing profits, collaborated with his brother-in-law Charles Kingsford, to come up with a use for the remnant hardwood from the production of Model-T automobiles. It’s all in the New York Times’ Who Made That Charcoal Briquette?
