The Vagabonds and Kingsford Charcoal

Posted by Edison Ford Winter Estates On September 29th

In 1914 Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Charles Burroughs, the self-titled “Vagabonds,” began taking camping trips into the back country of Florida. Their foray into nature gave them a taste for roughing it and along with Harvey Firestone they embarked on a series of trips into the Eastern United States over the following decade.

Find out how Henry Ford, always looking for ways to reduce waste while increasing profits, collaborated with his brother-in-law Charles Kingsford, to come up with a use for the remnant hardwood from the production of Model-T automobiles. It’s all in the New York Times’ Who Made That Charcoal Briquette?

Edison Ford Bell Tower Shoppe – Cypress Fish Sculptures and Lots More New Items

Posted by Edison Ford Winter Estates On September 29th

A new featured artist at Edison Ford Bell Tower Shoppe, creates beautiful large wall sculptures from cypress driftwood. Using the natural forms of the beautiful silvery driftwood to capture the look of swimming fish, snakes and alligators. These are one-of-a-kind art pieces and very reminiscent of “old Florida.”

The Edison Ford Bell Tower Shoppe, now in its second year, has “real old Florida” items including natural cypress knees – just like the ones that the Edisons collected a hundred years ago.

Located at the central fountain, the Edison Ford Bell Tower Shoppe is open daily during mall hours. We have received accolades for the look and feel of our shop – and remember that Edison Ford Members receive 10% discount on all items.  We also have select items available in our online store.
