President’s Update ~ Chris Pendleton, President & CEO

Posted by Edison Ford Winter Estates On May 2nd

As you can see from our progress photos, the new Museum West Porch is really moving quickly now toward its completion in June, 2014. Although its primary use will be for exit from the Museum into the gardens and the site overall, we already have plans to use it for activities, events, performances and certainly as a spot for the Inventor’s Camp to gather this summer. The NEW porch adds another 1,000 square feet to the Edison Ford Museum with an infinite range of possibilities for its use.

But for me, the new Museum West Porch ties the Museum to the gardens, the outdoors, and to science which were the real loves of both inventors and their families. Just as they would have enjoyed exploring outdoors, we are looking forward to upcoming classes in topics like rain barrels, kitchen herb gardens, kids in the garden and just sitting and enjoying the gardens.

Last month, we celebrated our unique collection of plants and trees with our Trustee Helen Hendry, Landscape Architect; longtime garden patron, Berne Davis; and students from Edison Park Elementary School. We added a dozen new trees (including a new Banyan) on Arbor Day, and we will continue to “add back” to the Edison Ford gardens the historic Old Florida trees that we all love. We expect to have the Edison Ford Summer Cruise schedule in place by May 27 with regular daily cruises that not only include the Edison and Ford history but we are adding new cruise topics for learning more about the environment, the river and the creatures that live in it.

Plan to stop in at The Marina at Edison Ford where we have a desk to explain this great new project, and see what’s happening at Edison Ford this summer
