2014 Firsts for Edison Ford president update

There are three big projects and firsts for Edison Ford coming up in 2014. These are three firsts for us as we complete almost a decade of successful non-profit governance, more than 65 years open to the public, and almost 130 years since Thomas Edison made Southwest Florida his winter home (for Henry Ford almost 100 years).

•  First #1 – February 2014 – Opening of Pinchers Crab Shack located on the top floor of the Marina at Edison Ford

Our new neighbor will provide direct access for us through the Edison Coconut Grove to expand our food, beverage, and cruise program as well as a host of shared activities such as concerts on the river, boating and fishing activities and other ways to “celebrate the river,” our history, science and the outdoors.

 •  First #2 – April 2014 – Opening of the Museum West Porch of the Edison Ford Museum

This 1,000 square foot outdoor addition to the Edison Ford Museum will greatly expand our program of classes, lectures, concerts and musical events, art in the gardens and rental opportunities for groups and gatherings.

 •  First #3 – Fall 2014 – National Historic Chemical Landmark, Edison Botanic Laboratory

The American Chemical Society (ACS) has designated the Edison Botanic Laboratory as a landmark site recognizing Edison’s contribution to the field of chemistry.

We are teaming up with the other Edison labs which are located at the Thomas Edison National Historic Park, West Orange, New Jersey and at Greenfield Village, The Henry Ford, Dearborn, Michigan.

We will give you plenty of notice for the national ceremony and related activities.
