President’s Update Chris Pendleton, President & CEO

Posted by Edison Ford Winter Estates On February 27th

Beginning in April, Edison Ford will open our new offsite location at the Bell Tower Shops. Beginning April throughpresident report December 2013, this will function as not only an offsite Edison Ford Museum Store, for books, our videos, garden, history and science merchandise but also to provide general information about the Edison & Ford Winter Estates including the homes, gardens, museum and present programs and classes for all ages. This is a very exciting project for us and we will be managing it with a combination of our staff as well as lots of volunteers.

We will also be a regular presenter and part of the Bell Tower monthly programming for children and families called ‘KIDding Around at the Bell Tower Shops.’  Our first presentation will be Tuesday, April 23 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Every fourth Tuesday from April through December look for the Edison Ford Wild Wizard team with activities for children and families to include: hands-on science, the science of sound, robotics and more. This is a terrific project and we are very grateful to Bell Tower Shops for their support.

On-site, we are bursting at the seams with our integrated program of science, invention, history and the arts for the schools and public. A look at the 2013 Inventor’s Summer Camp has several of the sessions already filled with waiting lists filling up as well. Summer Camp includes not only classes for 1 – 6 grades but also opportunities for middle, high school and college volunteers to earn volunteer credits through the “Summer Camp Counselor” project.

Shortly we will begin work on an extension to the Museum to be called the Museum West Porch. This will be a covered 50×25 foot porch which will open to the gardens and interior galleries. It will be used as a gathering area as well as a teaching porch. As usual, we will remain open throughout the work so we will have another exciting project unfold before our eyes once again.

Thank you again for your participation as Members and interested visitors. With six years under our belt as a relatively new non-profit organization, we have made impressive strides in preservation of the site as well as new education programming. And throughout, the board and staff have continued to develop our plan for the planned steady growth and financial stability that is so important to this institution.
