December President’s Update

Posted by Edison Ford Winter Estates On November 28th

This year marks our 37th holiday evening opening and our 6th year as an independent non-profit organization. Members and visitors alike have been very excited about the continued growth, changes, and the path we are taking to continue to develop the Edison & Ford Winter Estates.

Edison Ford Holiday Nights has been selected as one of the top ten events nationwide and for good reason. This year it extends from December 1 – December 30 (except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) and includes the dazzling decorations, musical performances nightly, self led tours or guided holiday tours by Edison Ford Historians, and informal programs in the Edison Ford Museum which is also open nightly during Holiday Nights.

One of the best new additions this year is the Curator led Behind-the-Scenes Tours every Tuesday at night and inside the buildings. These are available with prior registration by calling the Membership Office at 239-334-7419. Members can reserve their FREE tickets in advance and their guests will receive a 20% discount. Regular tickets for the nighttime Behind-the-Scenes Tours are $40 – but must be reserved in advance as space is limited.

December is also our time to ask for your help as Members to support the scholarship and education program at Edison Ford. As you make your end of year contributions, I hope you will consider making a gift to provide a scholarship to summer camp for a young student or a paid summer internship gift for college age students.

Both Edison and Ford believed in providing inventive experiences for our youngsters and we need your help to extend this to families who need a little assistance to participate. You will receive our request by mail, or you may call the Membership Office for additional information.

We look forward to seeing you during December and in the upcoming year to experience the growth firsthand at Edison Ford.

Tenth Annual Holiday Nights Children’s Tree Trail

Posted by Edison Ford Winter Estates On November 17th

For the past nine years, students and teachers from all over Lee County have created the magical “Children’s Tree Trail” at Edison Ford. It has grown every year.

The “trail” started as the brainchild of CEO Chris Pendleton and artist and  teacher, Karen Flanders, the mission of the project is to engage students in creating a holiday public art project that showcases student art abilities using science and history themes … and lots of lights.

A record number of 51 trees will be placed during the month of November in the Heritage Gardens near the Museum entrance and readied for teachers and volunteers to install the students’ creations. The students and their teachers must follow the theme (Edison and Ford Science) and create original art from found and recycled materials which are able to withstand the outdoor area for a month. Grants for the purchase of art supplies are provided by Edison Ford to the participating teachers.

Schools which will participate in the 2012 Children’s Tree Trail include: Allen Park Elementary, Alva Middle, Canterbury Intermediate, Cape Coral High, Challenger Middle, Cheers Early Learning Center, Colonial Elementary, Cypress Lake Middle, Diplomat Middle, East Lee County High School, Edgewood Academy, Edison Park Creative & Expressive Arts, Estero High, G.
