Inventor’s Summer Camp – By the Numbers

Posted by Edison Ford Winter Estates On August 6th

After ten weeks of Edison Ford Inventor’s Summer Camp, with an average of 45 student campers and six camp counselors a week, the numbers show that more than 500 students participated in the seventh year of award winning camp.

Edison Ford camp faculty included Glenn Beitmen (also known as the Wild Wizard) and Historian Pearce Augustenberg, who led the camp with the assistance of college intern Alex Ghanem. The program has proven to be strong in science, history and art curriculum and also in immersion of the site. Education Manager, Merry Coffman proudly distributed Achievement Certificates to the campers every week at closing graduation ceremonies.

Guest camp faculty this year included Dr. James English, who joined the group from his Boston based robotics engineering company ENERGID, and presented industry applications of engineering; John Kurdyla, a visiting guest curator from Italy, demonstrated recorded sound and the Edison phonograph; and Carol Stewart, retired Lee County teacher and current volunteer with the NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador program.
