November at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates is highlighted with the return of the Edison Garden Market and the opening of Creative Cottage as well as a NEW Estates Holiday Hands-On Science Camp for students grades K – 6th during Thanksgiving vacation and a variety of other special programs and activities throughout the month.  The November schedule of programs and events include:
LeeCounty School District Environmental Education Meeting, November 3, 4:30 PM
The Estates is hosting the Lee County School District Environmental Education Meeting for teachers in the Estates Education Center.  For more information call Anji McStravic, at 239-337-8661.
Sand Sculpting at the Estates, November 4, 9 AM – 5PM
In partnership with the 24th Annual American SandSculpting Championship & Beach Festival at Fort Myers Beach on November 10 – 14, the Estates is joining the Fort Myers Beach Chamber in the celebration with award winning sand sculptor, Katie Corning, who will create a sand sculpture of a Ford Model T and Edison and Ford inventions in the Ford Garage. Admission is FREE with the purchase of an Estates Guided Tour ticket. Special ticket price for Sand Sculpting  ONLY on Ford Estate $5, Estates Members FREE.   
Meet and Greet Estates Volunteer Staff, November 5, 10 AM
Meet and Greet the Estates new Volunteer Coordinator, Holly Shaffer and Assistant Interpreter and Volunteer Coordinator, Bobby Feldman in the Estates White House (parking available in new lot on Larchmont Street).  Refreshments will be served.  RSVP required. 
New Volunteer Orientation, November 9, 10 AM
Join Estates staff to learn about volunteer opportunities, Estates policies and general Museum information.  This is a mandatory training for all new Estates volunteers but potential volunteers are welcome.
FREE Admission to Veterans and their Families, November 11
The Estates is offering free admission to United States Veterans and their families on November 11th.  Free admission includes a tour of the historic homes, botanical gardens, the Estates Museum and the Edison Research Lab.  Veterans must present a VA identification card or their DD214 papers to receive free admission. 
Young Scientists and Inventors Fair for Homeschoolers, November 16, 10 AM – 12 PM, Awards Presentation at 1 PM
The first annual Young Scientists & Inventors Fair is open to all 6th – 12th grade homeschool and virtual students.  Students receiving the top awards will proceed on to the Southwest Florida Regional Fair, Thomas Alva Edison Kiwanis Science & Engineer Fair held in January at Harborside Convention Center, as well as the opportunity to participate in state and international level competitions.  Registration is required.  There is no cost to register.
Edison Inventors Association Meeting, November 17, 7PM
Monthly meeting at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates, open to all, the organization serves the inventors in the community by providing education and networking opportunities.  For move information contact 239-275-IDEA (4332).
Docent Training, November 18, 9 AM
New Estates volunteers who are interested in becoming Edison & Ford porch, Lab and Museum docents, or leading a group tour of the Estates grounds must attend this mandatory meeting.
Homeschoolers:  Earth & Landforms, November 18, 1 PM – 3 PM
Homeschooled students will explore the Earth inside and out to see what makes up our planet as well as learn about the natural physical features of the Earth’s surface.  Students and their parents can enroll in a half day of curriculum that follows the Florida Sunshine Objectives for Learning.  The program follows the Lee County mandated program and addresses environmental science, history and reading SOLS.  Pre-visit curriculum materials will be mailed to registered families.  Registration required. Estates members $5; non members $15 (one adult, one child) additional $5 per child. 
Edison Garden Market, November 20, 9AM– 5 PM; November 21,  9 AM – 4 PM  
The Edison Garden Market attracts plant vendors from throughout the state to sell unique plants, orchids, herbs, trees and garden merchandise.  The event also includes workshops, food, music and other activities.  The Edison Garden Market is a great event for family and friends and is FREE to the public.
NEW Fall into Fun Estates Camp, November 24 & 26, 9 AM – 4 PM, (Grades K – 6th)
A full two days of hands-on activities, games, crafts and more based on the excitement of the Thanksgiving holiday.  Students create their own balloon float, challenge each other in boat races while learning about the Pilgrim’s voyage, find out what Thomas Edison and Henry Ford were up to the year President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday, and many more fun filled activities.  Cost:  two days:  $70 Members, $80 non members; one day:  $50 Members, $55 non members.

The Estates seasonal Creative Cottage is back again in the historic Edison Caretaker’s House with a wonderful group of local artists, authors, and craftspeople.  Creative Cottage will be open 10 AM – 5 PM daily until December 8.  During the Estates holiday event, Edison & Ford Holiday Nights hours will be expanded to 9 PM.  Estates Members are FREE and a “shoppers pass” may be issued at the main ticket office to visit the Creative Cottage
Edison & Ford Holiday Nights, Holiday Party, December 8, 6 PM                                               
Kick off the holiday season with the second annual holiday party at the gloriously decorated homes and gardens of the Estates.  Guests will enjoy a special preview of the Estates annual event, food and beverages by the river, live music and much more.  Estates members, $60; non members $75. 
Edison & Ford Holiday Nights, December 9 – January 1, 5:30 PM – 9 PM
NEW Guided Tours at 6:30 PM & 7:30 PM
The Estates holiday tradition continues with Edison & Ford Holiday Nights, Southwest Florida’s 35 year annual event.  The winter homes of the Edison and Ford families will be seasonally decorated.  NEW Guided Tours at 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM (special ticket) of the homes and gardens including period decorations and Edison and Ford family traditions.  The Estates Museum will be open every evening with special exhibits as well as nightly holiday performances by area students and groups.  Special discount nights available to Lee County Residents on December 9, 10, 11, and 12.  Group rates are available to groups of 20 or more people with advance reservations.
